Retirement, tribute to a legend: Adidas Superstar 2 x Cope2

It is common practice in some industries that a well-used or reliable tool has its use stopped - not because it is useless or superseded, but merely for the nostalgic reasons of retirement. A particular example is The Simpsons, in an episode whereby Chief Wiggum's car is completely destroyed by a tree that has fallen on it and he disappointingly says that the car "was only a day away from its retirement". Though now that I think about it, I associate retirement with Blade Runner, because it is a euphemism for destroying a replicant. Anyway, something that I am retiring today is something that has certainly been with me for a long time, my Adidas Superstars. I have had them for just over three years and while they were not one of my most well-worn sneakers (nor my favourite for that matter haha), there is certainly a lot of memory attached. I gave them a good scrub (they were serving as my 'beaters') and relaced, etc. I also put some shoe trees in them to keep their shape as they lie in their box. Maybe sometimes I will take them out to look at and reminisce, but I am certainly not wearing them anymore for it is time for new things (sneakers).

These have been worn practically everywhere, most notably to year 11 camp where coffee was spilt onto them and they picked up a heap of dust and mud. Good times. Cleaned up pretty nicely if I say so myself. They are actually almost two sizes too big for me, but that does not matter anymore since they are being retired. Oh, so how did I get these? Actually, Dad bought them for my fifteenth birthday so that explains the obvious nostalgia and such. And coincidentally, today, happy 55th birthday Dad ♥
